An historical gathering will be held on December 4th, 2009 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Marking a second year anniversary of the passing of Norval Morrisseau a.k.a. Copper Thunderbird.
-
The families of Morrisseau & Kakegamics; along with friends will be in attendance. The gathering will honour Norval Morrisseau as a father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and a friend. Special recognition will be given to the master painter Norval Morrisseau for his monumental contribution to Native Canadian art which has given him international status and recognition world wide.

If any friends or admirers of Norval Morrisseau would like to assist the family to host this event your contribution would be greatly appricated by the family. Your contribution can be forwarded to CIBC Bank at Red Lake, Ontario; Account # 497-5503337. The funds will be administered by Victoria Kakegamic [Morrisseau] the firstborn and spokeperson of the Morrisseau family and Goyce Kakegamic, brother-in-law of Norval Morrisseau.

The family is planning a program for the evening with their invited guests - friends of Norval Morrisseau and will have an opportunity to discuss a few important issues:

1. Headstone fund raising for Norval Morrisseau and for his wife Harriet at Keewaywin First Nation. The family would like to thank for those that already contributed to this cause, Joseph McLeod of Maslak McLeod Gallery, Toronto, Ontario; Rudy Bies of Mississauga, Ontario and Brenda Chabot of Old Downtown Gallery, Orangeville, Ontario.

2. The family will also be addressing The Norval Morrisseau Family Foundation with the invited guests informing them of the family's endorsment to the Foundation and to ask them for their support of Norval Morrisseau Family Foundation's mandate and it's function:

2.1. To assert the stability and continuity of the clan of the CopperThunderbird, Norval Morrisseau and the stewardship of his legacy through the family line,
-
2.2. To maintain and grow Norval Morrissaeu's stature as a major international artist, to preserve his legacy and ensure that it is respected and honoured,
-
2.3. To enforce The Morrisseau Family Foundation's status as a sole copyright holder to the legacy of Norval Morrisseau.

After the program the public and media will be invited for the family's statements.
